The Swedish Government has appointed the Technology Delegation to highlight society's need for well-educated people in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering and ICT.
The Technology Delegation will propose how teachers may be supported, how teaching methodology may be improved and how schools may cooperate with the business sector. The Delegation will complete its assignment by the end of April 2010 and I believe it has every chance of succeeding. There is plenty of knowledge and experience from previous committees of enquiry and research to draw upon, from Sweden as well as the rest of the world. Researchers are generally in agreement about the need for teaching to move towards a more problem-based learning approach and the need for the business sector to contribute relevant contexts and examples. The role of teachers is of course central and they must be given better conditions to succeed with their teaching.
It is with great expectation that I look forward to presiding over the important task we have been assigned.
